This is a fantastic centre based vacation route near empty whitesanded beaches of the Baltic Sea. Comfortable accommodation is situated only 800m from the Baltic Sea in Koshrags – an old Liiv fishing village within the boundaries of Slitere National Park The village has its own cultural history and magical charm.
The Slitere National Park can offer a great horseback riding vacation experience for wildlife enthusiasts – you have all chances to hear the shout of owls, barking of deer and the voices of wolf during the night; you can smell raccoon and observe beaver building its house or watch deer swimming early in the morning.

Fishing villages route: Koshrags – Vaide – Koshrags (25 km)
This horseback riding route is suitable for active riders that are interested in seaside nature and Liiv cultural heritage (35 km, approximately 6 hours including sightseeings in the villages). This Equestrian route heads through the forest connecting several villages: Kosrags, Pitrags, Saunags and Vaide. Time by time it is still possible to notice the ancient features of the fishermen lifes.
Most of your vacation time you will spend in Slitere National Park – one of the oldest national parks in the Baltic States. Slītere National Park is famous for the broadleaf forests covering former coastline and for the unique complex of dunes and depressions featuring inter-dune bogs. Most of the broadleaf forest is located on the “Zilie Kalni” or “Blue Hills”, which are geologically one of the most recognizable features of the park. Thousands of years ago, the Zilie Kalni formed the ancient shore of the Baltic ice lake.
Slitere National Park is a special territory for animals as well. Due to geographic location and the biome diversity this national park is rich with animal fauna typical for Latvia.
Fishing villages route with horse swimming in the Baltic sea: Koshrags – Sikrags – Koshrags (25 km)
You will really enjoy swimming with horses in the Baltic Sea and riding with horses in any direction through best landscapes of white sand beaches of Slitere National Park. This will be your unforgettable vacation day full of adventures and harmony with nature.
Kolka horn route: Koshrags – Kolka – Koshrags (45 km)
Kolka horn and horseback ride along the widest beaches in Europe. First mentions of Kolka are already from XIV century. The nearby Cape Kolka – the most popular tourist attraction in all the Nothern Kurzeme – is the place where the Gulf of Rīga meets the open sea. This is the place where the sun both rises and sets above the sea in summer. Kolka lies 20km north of Koshrags.
It is possible to take special sea or fishing boats to go around the Kolka lighthouse that is located 6 km far from the coast. It is possible to take part in the fishing either with nets or using ancient technique to get plaice with rubs. Smoked fish can be especially tasty after the boating.
Route of the sea and river Irbe: Koshrags – river Irbe – Koshrags (30 km)
You will enjoy a beach ride full of freedom! The special atmosphere of river Irbe can be explored on the back of your horse. Enjoy galloping in empty whitesand beaches and crossing the rivers. Unforgettable day of you horseback riding vacation.
You will have a picnic in a special place in green pine forest where the river Irbe meats the Baltic sea right on the border of Nature Reserve Ovisi.

Lighthouse of Mikeltornis and Secrets of Soviet military system: Koshrags – Mikeltornis (30 km)
A beautiful beach ride towards Ventspils. In Mikeltornis (about 30 km from Koshrags) stands the highest lighthouse in the Baltic countries (62 m) – climbing it up opens an amazing view over the sea and forests.
This horseback riding vacation route leads along the ancient road of mini steam-engine railway road. In history (1920-1960) railway played a significant social role – it brought together the isolated, separated villages. During First World War the railway served as a route for transporting military units and cargo.
A special equestrian route with nature that has developed without the interaction of humans in the places, where there were Soviet Army security objects. The special security zone was created not only because of former Soviet Union outside border, but also because of radio telescope complex. This complex was used during the Cold War for interception of American and NATO satellite communication. The radio telescope of Irbene is connected underground to a secret computational centre located in a hidden village, where the transcription of the intercepted communication took place. There are air defense bunkers, tank sheds, rocket casings and other hidden military objects located in the secret territory of radio telescope. The strict security allowed for nature to develop without the interaction of local inhabitants to save thhese places for your vacation.

Ride through the beautiful hilly pine forest trails and wild landscapes in first day and through white sanded beaches of Lilaste nature park in second day of your equestrian horseback riding vacation. Wonderful mix of Latvia nature in three days Adventure. These places were specially protected and now you can discover the wild landscape by yourself. Vidzeme seaside from Lilaste to the White Dune is a nature reserve with protected plants. The nature reserve leads along the beautiful beaches and special „ traveling” dunes now covered with pine forests. Great option for short horse riding vacation and wonderful equestrian adventure.

Pine forests of Adazi (20 km)
Ride through the beautiful hilly pine forest trails and wild landscapes. These places were specially protected and now you can discover the wild landscape by yourself on horseback. In Adazi about 40% of territory of the region is covered by forests, where numerous lakes are scattered. Because of the special nature reserve protection of this territory many economic activities are prohibited here. Since 2004, the area of protected landscapes is included into the Natura2000 network of EU protected natural areas.

This equestrian vacation leads you along beautiful cliffs and rock outcrops, you will be able to drink from springs and on your way you might even meet different wild animals and discover nature’ s secrets. Crossing of Gauja river: Ligatne – Raiskums via Gauja river (27 km)
You will start your ride in Ligatne that is one of the most gorgeous places in the Gauja National Park. The historical development of the village of Ligatne Paper Mill is at least 200 years long. Ligatne is situated on 6 hills and this town is so beautiful due to sandstone cliff exposures on the banks of Ligatne River and Gauja River. Inhabitants of Ligatne remember tales about Katriniezis rock, Gudu cliffs, Jumpraviezis rock and, certainly, about Gauja – its dark pits, islands, rafters…

In the valley of Ligatne River there are artificial caves – cellars excellent at storage of vegetables and chosen as winter quarters by bats. 8 species of bats are met in Ligatne. Ligatne is the richest in caves place in Latvia
You will start this vacation day by crossing Gauja river on a historical wooden ferry operated by a manpower. Further on the ride leads through the wild forests of the National park on the other side of Gauja.
Possibility to attend Ligatne Nature Park with wild animals or the Secret Soviet Bunker 9 m under surface.
Kvepene route: Raiskums – Cēsis via Kvepene (32 km)
You will ride on the Kvepene Hill fort surrounded by a fairytale landscape, where you will see possibly the most beautiful giant tree in Latvia – Kvepene Oak that is symbolically drawn also on the 5 lats banknote of Latvian lats.
After horseback riding through Kvepene forests the route continues to Cirulishu nature trails. The path was created to present the natural formation process from the ice age to present. You will enjoy the landscape with mirror cliffs and absolutely clear water.
Amata river route: Cesis – Zvarte – Cesis (35 km)
Today’s route leads along the river Gauja and Amata. In the morning you will explore the banks of the river Gauja and continue along Amata. The Amata is one of the fastest rivers in the country and has a picturesque shore with red sandstone cliffs and steep rock formations. The Zvartes Rock are among the most famous in this region. During this day you will explore beautiful small rivers on horseback as well. If you are a fun of exciting rides on a horse back you will definitely enjoy ups and downs of the wild banks of rivers till you reach Zvarte.
Strikupe river route: Cesis – via river Strike – Janmuiza (25 km)
The riding down into river-bed of Strike is the highlight of this riding day. River Strike has very steep and sandy banks making this a beautiful riding experience. Forest trails of Gauja National park and the healing effect of spring water on the way will add to the joy of the vacation day. After horseback riding you will have excursion in Cesis a town with medieval old town and castle. Overnight in Cesis region.
Gauja river route: Janmuiza – Sietiniezis – Valmiera (31 km)
Further on the route we will continue along Gauja banks riding on its beaches, along forests and beautiful meadows with trails in perfect conditions for relaxed riding. The picnic will take place near Sietiniezis – a 500 m long and exceptionally beautiful sandstone cliffs near Gauja river. The perfect equestrian path continues to Valmiera – the final destination of this route. After horseback riding you will be transferred to Sigulda – a town with beautiful view on Gauja valley and medieval castle for overnight.
